Kazakhstan to Reduce Grain Exports while Maintaining Domestic Market
Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Agriculture, Azat Sultanov, announced on October 19 that the country will reduce its grain exports without affecting the domestic market. This decision was made to ensure the availability of grain-related products for the people of Kazakhstan.
Sultanov stated that Kazakhstan plans to export about five million tons of grain this year, which is lower than the average annual volume of 7-8 million tons recorded in previous years. Despite the reduction in grain exports, the country will focus on supplying flour to the domestic market.
According to Sultanov, the grain shipments have been progressing well, considering that the marketing season has just begun. He referred to the forecast that predicts a yield of 15.6 million tons of high-quality grain this year. This abundant supply will contribute to the production of socially significant products such as flour, pasta, and bread.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov, highlighted the importance of the KazAgro/KazFarm international exhibition. He described it as the largest platform in Central Asia for showcasing the best developments in the crop, livestock, and processing industries. Saparov emphasized that Kazakhstan, as an agricultural power, plays a crucial role in providing food for the Central Asian region and Afghanistan, with wide export supplies to many countries.
Saparov also mentioned the widespread introduction of water-saving technologies in Kazakhstan. The country is taking steps to address climate change and water resource shortages by reimbursing half the costs of irrigation systems. These measures aim to promote sustainable farming practices and ensure efficient use of water resources.
The decisions made by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture reflect the government’s commitment to balancing the needs of the domestic market and maintaining the country’s position as a major player in the global grain industry.
