Kazakhstan to Provide Natural Gas to 12.8 Million People in 2021

Kazakhstan to Complete 60 Gasification Projects, Expand Access to Natural Gas
ASTANA – Kazakhstan is making significant strides in expanding access to natural gas for its population. By the end of this year, the country plans to complete 60 gasification projects in 71 populated areas, bringing access to an additional 218,000 people. This will increase the total number of people with access to natural gas to 12.8 million, as announced by Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov at a recent government meeting on April 23.
In the previous year, 62.4% of the country’s population, approximately 12.6 million people, had access to natural gas. Kazakhstan’s gas production for January-March totaled at 17.2 billion cubic meters. For 2024, gas production reached 59 billion cubic meters, and the planned volume for 2025 is set at 62.8 billion cubic meters.
Major fields such as Karachaganak, Tengiz, and Kashagan are expected to drive the anticipated growth in gas production. Commercial gas production in 2024 amounted to 28.7 billion cubic meters, with a planned increase to 29.4 billion cubic meters in 2025.
Akkenzhenov stated that in 2024, 21.2 billion cubic meters of gas were supplied to meet domestic demand, and the projected consumption volume for 2025 is nearly 21.3 billion cubic meters. Additionally, liquefied petroleum gas production reached 1.7 million tons in the previous year, with the same target set for 2025.
Kazakhstan is also focusing on developing geological exploration in the gas industry, with a priority on increasing the volume of proven hydrocarbon reserves. These efforts are aimed at further enhancing the country’s energy security and providing clean and efficient fuel sources for its population.
