Kazakhstan’s Clean Cities Campaign Persists
The Taza (Clean) Kazakhstan environmental campaign has successfully wrapped up its third week with impressive results. More than 330,000 tree seedlings were planted, and 500 landscaped parks and squares were improved across Kazakhstan. Nearly one million people, including President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, government officials, and foreign diplomats, actively participated in over 5,000 events since the campaign began on April 8.
President Tokayev led a city clean-up and tree-planting event at the Ulytau Alley in Astana, where 430 linden tree seedlings were planted with the help of volunteers and various organizations. During discussions with young citizens, the President highlighted the importance of fostering a culture of environmental awareness and respect for nature as an ongoing commitment.
President Tokayev emphasized that the cleanliness and beauty of Kazakhstan are vital not only for attracting visitors and investors but also for the well-being and pride of its citizens. He called for a cultural shift where cleanliness becomes a way of life for all citizens, from major cities to small towns and villages. Additionally, he stressed the significance of upholding the rule of law and order, as well as taking a firm stance against vandalism.
In Astana, Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek outlined plans to plant 1.1 million green spaces this year, with a focus on the enhancement of public areas and the surrounding green belt. The efforts aim to beautify and maintain various spaces, including the embankments, parks, and the EXPO territory.
Furthermore, diplomatic engagement was a key aspect of the campaign, with the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs and nearly 70 foreign embassies and international organizations collaborating to enhance Astana’s districts by planting trees and cleaning public areas. The SCO meeting also saw heads of defense departments and member states participating in environmental initiatives, including planting seedlings near the Kazakh Ministry of Defense building.
Regional efforts also made a significant impact, with initiatives in the Karaganda and Turkistan Regions involving the planting of thousands of trees and creating green corridors. The campaign in these regions showcased community support and participation in environmental efforts.
As the campaign moves into its fourth and fifth weeks, the focus will shift towards cleaning and landscaping elderly people’s yards, nursing homes, and areas around water bodies such as rivers and lakes. The Taza Kazakhstan campaign continues to promote environmental consciousness and collective action towards a cleaner and greener Kazakhstan.
