Kazakhstan’s Five-Year Plan for AI Development

Kazakh Ministry Proposes National Artificial Intelligence Development Project

The Kazakh Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry has unveiled a project aimed at developing artificial intelligence (AI) by 2024-2029. As per the draft concept, the launch of a supercomputer is expected by 2025.

The ministry’s plan includes the creation of a National Artificial Intelligence Platform based on Smart Data Ukimet, which contains data from over 90 information systems of government agencies. The goal is to develop at least 25 solutions using artificial intelligence based on this platform by 2029.

Additionally, the ministry proposes the establishment of a training course on AI with the option to obtain a certificate. It is anticipated that at least 80,000 individuals will participate in the course by 2029.

An important aspect of the concept is the development and implementation of a national language model based on neural networks. According to the draft document, this will enable the use of the Kazakh language in various AI projects, reduce reliance on foreign services, and foster domestic expertise in this area. It is also seen as a means to preserve Kazakh culture and values in the digital environment and stimulate the development of language models within the same language group.

The ambitious AI development project reflects Kazakhstan’s commitment to technological advancement and innovation, with a focus on leveraging artificial intelligence for the benefit of the nation.
