Kazakhstan’s Mazhilis Approves Kazakh-Chinese Agreement for Trans-Caspian Route Development

Deputies of the Mazhilis, the lower house of the Kazakh Parliament, have recently approved a law ratifying an agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and China to further develop the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). This agreement aims to enhance the use of road, rail, and sea transport, create favorable conditions for the transportation of goods, and establish logistics centers in both countries to attract more transit along the route.

Transport Minister Marat Karabayev highlighted the importance of this agreement, noting that last year witnessed a significant 65% increase in cargo transportation volume along the TITR, totaling 2.7 million tons. Furthermore, the volume of transportation in the first four months of this year increased by 14% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 1.4 million tons.

Main items of cargo transported along the route include equipment, consumer goods, plant products, textiles, ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The project is expected to boost trade and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and China, ultimately leading to an increase in cargo transportation between the two countries.

Karabayev reassured that the adoption of this bill will not result in any negative socio-economic, legal, or financial consequences for the national budget. This initiative is set to strengthen the partnership between Kazakhstan and China, creating new opportunities for commerce and transit between the two nations.
