Kazakhstan’s Nuclear Power Plant Referendum: International Observers to Monitor Over 200 Public Associations

ASTANA—More than 230 public associations in Kazakhstan are gearing up to participate as observers in the upcoming national referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant, set to take place on Oct. 6. The Central Election Commission Chairman, Nurlan Abdirov, has confirmed that international observers will also be present to ensure the transparency of the voting process.

In a recent report by the Khabar TV channel, Abdirov discussed the recent changes in referendum legislation and highlighted the ongoing campaign efforts. He emphasized the importance of training for all commission members involved in the referendum.

With over 10,000 commissions and 70,000 polling stations prepared for citizen voting, Abdirov revealed that there are at least 70,000 members serving on precinct commissions throughout the country.

During a meeting in Aktau, experts from the Kazakhstan Institute of Public Development shared the results of a recent survey on the construction of the nuclear power plant. The survey, which polled 8,000 individuals nationwide, showed that 64% of respondents are willing to participate in the upcoming referendum.

As preparations continue for the national referendum, the presence of both domestic and international observers will play a crucial role in ensuring a fair and transparent voting process for all citizens of Kazakhstan.
