ASTANA – Kazakhstan’s public catering sector experienced a notable increase in 2023, with the country registering 15,826 catering venues, showcasing a 4.5% rise from the previous year, as reported by the Bureau of National Statistics on July 11.

The surge was particularly evident in the restaurant sector, which witnessed a substantial jump from 2,106 establishments in 2022 to 2,303 in 2023. Canteens also saw growth, expanding from 4,752 to 5,383 venues. However, the number of cafes experienced a decline, dropping from 5,016 in 2022 to 4,479 in 2023.

Among the regions, the cities leading in the number of restaurants were Astana with 400 venues, Almaty with 351, and the Turkistan Region with 213. When it comes to cafes, Almaty took the lead with 508 establishments, followed by Astana with 385, and the Karagandy Region with 464.

In terms of the overall economic impact, the total volume of services provided in the public catering sector in 2023 reached 1.1 trillion tenge (US$2.3 billion), marking an impressive 11.9% increase compared to the previous year.

This continued growth in the public catering industry reflects the ongoing development and demand for dining options in Kazakhstan, showcasing the country’s vibrant culinary landscape.
