Kazakhstan’s Transport Sector Thrives with 10% Growth in 2024, Fueled by Maritime Expansion
ASTANA – Kazakhstan’s transportation sector has shown significant growth in 2024, with a 10% overall increase across all modes, as reported by Trend on Feb. 7.
A total of 1.0788 billion tons of cargo was transported, with freight turnover reaching 514.5 billion ton-kilometers, marking a 5% increase from the previous year. Passenger turnover also saw a notable rise of 13.8%, reaching 82.8 billion passenger kilometers.
Among the various modes of transportation, rail transport experienced steady growth, moving 437.1 million tons of cargo, a 5% increase compared to the previous year. Passenger travel by train also rose by 5.1%.
One of the most significant growths was observed in maritime transport, which saw a 2.1-fold increase in cargo, totaling 2.8 million tons, and a 1.8-fold rise in maritime freight turnover, reaching 1.6 billion ton-kilometers.
The positive trends in Kazakhstan’s transportation sector reflect the country’s commitment to improving infrastructure and efficiency in moving both people and goods across the nation. With continued investments and developments, the sector is poised for further growth and success in the coming years.
