Kazakhstan’s Transport Sector Thrives with 10% Growth in 2024, Fueled by Maritime Expansion

ASTANA – Kazakhstan’s transportation sector has shown significant growth in 2024, with a 10% overall increase across all modes, as reported by Trend on Feb. 7.

A total of 1.0788 billion tons of cargo was transported, with freight turnover reaching 514.5 billion ton-kilometers, marking a 5% increase from the previous year. Passenger turnover also saw a notable rise of 13.8%, reaching 82.8 billion passenger kilometers.

Among the various modes of transportation, rail transport experienced steady growth, moving 437.1 million tons of cargo, a 5% increase compared to the previous year. Passenger travel by train also rose by 5.1%.

One of the most significant growths was observed in maritime transport, which saw a 2.1-fold increase in cargo, totaling 2.8 million tons, and a 1.8-fold rise in maritime freight turnover, reaching 1.6 billion ton-kilometers.

The positive trends in Kazakhstan’s transportation sector reflect the country’s commitment to improving infrastructure and efficiency in moving both people and goods across the nation.
