Kazakhstan’s Youth Employment Reaches 3.6 Million
ASTANA – The Bureau of National Statistics reported on Sept. 26 that the number of employed youth in Kazakhstan had reached 3.6 million by the end of the second quarter of the year. This marked a 1.8% increase from the same period last year, showing positive growth in youth employment.
Among the employed youth, 46% have higher education or postgraduate degrees, while 48% possess technical vocational training. The data shows that the largest number of employed youth are working in wholesale and retail trade, including auto repair, totaling 643,000. Additionally, the education sector employs 438,000 youth, and 416,000 are working in the industry.
The youth unemployment rate in Kazakhstan currently stands at 3.2%, which is a decrease from 3.6% during the same period last year. It is encouraging to see a decline in youth unemployment, indicating more opportunities for young people to enter the workforce.
Looking ahead, the statistics reveal that by the end of 2023, the majority of employed youth (50.4%) were in the age group of 29-34 years. This demonstrates that young adults in this age range are actively participating in the workforce and contributing to the economy.
Overall, the increase in employed youth and the decrease in youth unemployment rate are positive indicators for the labor market in Kazakhstan. It is essential to continue creating opportunities for young people to gain education and skills training, ultimately leading to a more prosperous future for the country.
