KKNÜB urges for boost in citrus fruit export support

The Northern Cyprus Citrus Producers Association (KKNÜB) is urging the government to provide increased support for the export of citrus fruits. In a statement, KKNÜB President Turgut Akçın highlighted the challenges faced in exports and called for the government to provide a minimum of 6 TL per ton to support both exports and producers.
Akçın also mentioned that citrus producers are eagerly awaiting the announcement of prices for Cypfruvex’s Grapefruit, Lemon, and Mandora. Despite lower yields in some regions compared to the previous season, the quality of the fruits is reported to be much better. While progress has been made in solving export-related issues, there is still a stagnation in the export market.
Cypfruvex has completed the harvest of Grapefruit and Lemon for concentrate, with 1,500 tons of Grapefruit and 1,200 tons of Lemon harvested. The focus has now shifted to harvesting Mandora for concentrate, with an emphasis on harvesting from well-maintained gardens and prompt packaging for export to avoid wastage.
Producers are advised to act swiftly in harvesting Mandora from neglected gardens to prevent losses due to shedding. It is important to package the fruits efficiently for export to ensure their quality and prevent any wastage. Stay tuned for updates on the citrus market in Northern Cyprus as the season progresses.
