Peskov Addresses Oil Prices, Ukraine Conflict, and International Mediation Efforts
In a recent press briefing in Moscow, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov addressed journalists on several critical issues concerning Russia’s national interests, the state of oil prices, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
In light of declining oil prices, Peskov emphasized that such fluctuations would not influence Russia’s stance on its national interests. “Oil prices cannot be a factor that may affect Russia’s attitude towards national interests. Russia’s national interests come before everything, including oil prices,” he asserted. He asserted, “There will be no attack, but if the Kiev regime continues to attack our positions or facilities, we will retaliate.” This comment reflects Russia’s readiness to respond vigorously to perceived threats.
Highlighting ongoing hostilities, Peskov condemned Ukraine’s actions, claiming that the Kiev administration continues to target civilians within Russia using unmanned aerial vehicles. He expressed concern that Ukraine’s government is intent on prolonging the conflict, further complicating the situation in the region.
Furthermore, Peskov responded to speculation regarding Brazil potentially mediating the Ukraine conflict instead of the United States. He stated, “This issue is not on the agenda. We continue to work with the US side. Of course, we welcome the efforts of all countries that are willing to contribute to a peaceful solution to the conflict.” This remark points to Russia’s ongoing diplomatic engagements while remaining open to other nations’ involvement in resolving the crisis.
