KTAMS and KAMUSEN Issue Warning on Ercan Civil Aviation Fire Brigade Deficiencies

The Turkish Cypriot Public Servants Union (KTAMS) and Turkish Cypriot Public Servants Union (KAMUSEN) have taken action to address equipment deficiencies in the Civil Aviation Department Fire Department.

In a press statement at the Civil Aviation Ercan Fire Department, the unions called on the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Erhan Arıklı, to address the issues and resolve them as soon as possible.

KTAMS Chairman Güven Bengihan highlighted that firefighters, who moved to their new building on July 20, were promised that the deficiencies in the building would be corrected promptly. However, after 3 months, no steps have been taken to address the problems. He emphasized that the existing issues, such as insufficient electricity leading to generator explosions and water engine malfunctions, need to be resolved urgently.

Bengihan also pointed out that problems such as the alarm-announcement system in the fire brigade, water in the hydrants, emergency garage door, and EBS system have not been resolved. He noted that the strike ban at Ercan Airport will end on November 24 and urged Minister Arıklı to take action.

KAMUSEN President Metin Atan echoed the call for Minister Arıklı to address the infrastructure problems and stressed that the purchase of 2 vehicles for the Fire Department is critical.

Both unions emphasized that the problems will worsen if the equipment and infrastructure issues are not addressed promptly, and they invited the Minister to witness the situation firsthand. The urgency of the situation was underscored, as the safety and effectiveness of the Fire Department are at stake.
