Turkish Cypriot Journalists Union (KTGB) Announces Members for TAK and BRTK Board of Directors

The Turkish Cypriot Journalists Union (KTGB) has announced the members who will serve on the Turkish Agency Kıbrıs (TAK) and Broadcasting Corporation of Northern Cyprus (BRTK) Board of Directors. According to the union’s information, Artun Çağa will continue to serve on the TAK Board of Directors, while Veli Kocaismail will serve on the BRTK Board of Directors.

The KTGB held a General Assembly meeting to determine the members who will serve on the TAK and BRTK Board of Directors for a period of three years. The meeting was chaired by Cenk Mutluyakalı, with Canan Onurer and Dilek Kodan serving as secretaries.

During the meeting, Özgül Gürkut Mutluyakalı, speaking on behalf of the KTGB Board of Directors, expressed her confidence that the newly elected members of the TAK and BRTK management will work towards protecting the rights of the union members and improving the democratic structure of these institutions.

Mutluyakalı highlighted the ongoing struggle of the KTGB for press freedom and freedom of expression. She emphasized the importance of an organized effort in the face of the current challenging period both for the country and the press.

In the election for TAK Board of Directors membership, Artun Çağa received 77 votes, followed by Emir Ertorun with 54 votes, and Erol Atabek with 17 votes. For BRTK Board of Directors membership, İbrahim Güneşer received 44 votes, İltaç Aslım received 36 votes, Suad Suiçmez received 20 votes, and Veli Kocaismail received 49 votes.

The announcement of the new members of the TAK and BRTK Board of Directors is expected to bring fresh perspectives and contributions to these important media institutions, further strengthening press freedom and democratic values in the region.
