Turkish Cypriot Teachers Union Takes Action on School Problems
The Turkish Cypriot Secondary Education Teachers’ Union (KTOEÖS) recently gathered at Çanakkale Secondary School to address the ongoing issues faced by the school community. The union members, equipped with written and oral banners, led a march to the Monument of Zafer as a form of protest.
Selma Action, President of the Turkish Cypriot Secondary Education Teachers’ Union, expressed dismay over incidents of peer bullying that occurred at the school. She highlighted concerns about the lack of resources for full-time education and overcrowded classrooms, stressing the urgent need for solutions.
Furthermore, the union called attention to the shortage of teachers in many schools and urged the Ministry to take immediate action to address these pressing issues. Şerife Ağcabay, the aunt of a student who reportedly experienced bullying, emphasized the importance of improving infrastructure and enhancing security measures in schools for the safety of all students.
KTOEÖS Secretary General Tahir Gökçebel emphasized that every child has the right to receive an education free of problems and emphasized the need for prompt resolution of education-related challenges. The union’s advocacy efforts reflect their commitment to ensuring a conducive learning environment for all students.
