KTÖS to Support Tomorrow’s Strike with Local Strikes, Says BRTK
Cyprus Turkish Teachers Union (KTÖS) will be participating in tomorrow’s general strike by organizing local strikes in support of the cause. The announcement was made by KTÖS Secretary General, Burak Maviş, who stated that several schools will be on strike for a specific period of time during the day.
According to Maviş, the decision to support the strike was motivated by concerns over the current state of the agricultural sector in the country. Maviş highlighted the importance of the agricultural and industrial sectors in the country’s economy, pointing out that these sectors provide employment opportunities for a significant portion of the population.
Maviş criticized the government’s agricultural policies, which have led to negative growth in both crop and livestock production. He also expressed disappointment in the government’s decision to import frozen meat instead of addressing the issues within the domestic production sector.
The Secretary General called for dialogue between the government and relevant stakeholders in the agricultural sector to find sustainable solutions to the problems faced by producers. He emphasized the importance of supporting local producers and providing the public with quality products at affordable prices.
Maviş proposed bringing live animals specific to the Mediterranean region under the control of local producers as a way to address the supply chain issues in the livestock sector. He warned that continued reliance on imports for basic food items could lead to increased prices and dependence on foreign sources.
In conclusion, Maviş urged the government to prioritize the interests of local producers and work towards creating a more sustainable and self-sufficient agricultural sector.
