Kurtulmuş to continue meeting with parties for new constitution consultation

Work on the ‘new constitution’ in the Turkish Grand National Assembly is set to continue after Eid al-Adha, according to Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş. Kurtulmuş has been meeting with representatives of political parties, including those without groups in the parliament, to discuss the upcoming changes.

Starting with parties that already have groups in the Parliament, Kurtulmuş has met with the leaders of 5 out of 8 parties that do not have groups. Following Eid al-Adha, he will continue his meetings with the remaining three parties without groups.

In addition to political parties, Kurtulmuş plans to meet with representatives from non-governmental organizations and universities to gather their input on the new constitution. The goal is to create a new, civilian constitution that reflects the views and needs of all sectors of society.

Political parties are expected to finalize their proposals for the new constitution in the coming weeks, with negotiations on the content set to begin in the new legislative year starting on October 1. The process of developing a new constitution is an important step in solidifying Turkey’s democratic values and ensuring a fair and inclusive legal framework for all citizens.
