Numan Kurtulmuş Visits Kyrgyzstan: Honoring Historic Legacy at Ata-Beyit Complex
During his recent trip to Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Numan Kurtulmuş, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, visited the Ata-Beyit National History and Monument Complex. This site commemorates the Kyrgyz rebellion against Russian Tsarism in 1916, a historical event known as the "Great Escape."
The Ata-Beyit Complex is not only significant for its historical context but also as the resting place of notable figures from Kyrgyzstan’s history. Among those honored at the site is Toleykul Aytmatov, the father of world-renowned Kyrgyz writer Cengiz Aytmatov, who was executed in secret in 1938. During the visit, Kurtulmuş paid his respects at the graves of Aytmatov and 138 other prominent Kyrgyz intellectuals, gathering to reflect on their contributions to the nation.
The visit included a solemn ceremony where the Holy Quran was recited, fostering a moment of reflection and prayer for those who sacrificed for their country’s freedom. The occasion also highlighted the enduring relationship between Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, as attendees included notable Turkish lawmakers such as AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Muhammet Emin Akbasoglu, Deputy Chairman Kürşad Zorlu, and other prominent political figures.
Kurtulmuş’s visit underscores the importance of remembering history and honoring the contributions of those who fought for their nation’s independence, while also strengthening diplomatic ties between Turkey and Kyrgyzstan.
