Hungarian Government to Protect Country from External Influences
In a recent Facebook video, Levente Magyar, a state secretary at the Hungarian foreign ministry, emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting the country from any external attempts at influencing its affairs. He stated that nothing will come before the national interest of Hungary.
Magyar highlighted the issue of restrictions faced by Transcarpathian Hungarians in Ukraine, due to policies implemented by nationalist governments in Kyiv. Despite these challenges, Hungary chose to assist Ukraine by opening its borders to refugees, launching humanitarian actions, and rebuilding infrastructure in the country.
The Hungarian government also implemented programmes to support refugees in Hungary, aiding in their integration and overall well-being. Magyar expressed the government’s desire to see an end to the war in Ukraine and the suffering of its people, shaping humanitarian assistance policies towards that goal.
However, Magyar also voiced concerns about actions taken by Ukraine that could damage Hungary’s reputation. He called out Ukraine for financially supporting efforts to tarnish the Hungarian government’s image, describing it as a betrayal. Magyar’s visit to Kyiv was aimed at seeking clarification from Ukrainian leadership and discussing potential responses to such interference.
While Hungary values good relations with Ukraine, Magyar stressed the importance of Ukraine restoring the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transylvania and ceasing activities aimed at undermining the Hungarian government.
