Kyrenia Municipality Issues Warning About Continued Asian Tiger Mosquito Spraying

Kyrenia Municipality Continues Spraying Efforts Against Asian Tiger Mosquito
The Kyrenia Municipality has announced that efforts to spray against the Asian Tiger Mosquito are ongoing and has provided information on the precautions that citizens should take to help in the fight against the mosquitoes.
In a statement from the Kyrenia Municipality Health Branch, it was revealed that in addition to the ongoing pesticide application within the program, the public also has an integrated duty in the fight against the Asian Tiger Mosquito.
The statement emphasized that all applications against the mosquito, which can cause diseases such as Zika Virus, Dengue Fever, Chikungunya, and West Nile Virus, were being carried out using environmentally friendly methods.
The Asian Tiger Mosquito is known to breed in various small containers such as old car tires, flower pots, small buckets, and other small debris-filled areas, creating hundreds of thousands of breeding sources. Given the difficulty of detecting and treating each individual source, city residents have been called upon to help provide solutions.
The public has been urged to empty water from containers in gardens, flower pots, towels, and unused car tires, renew water in containers for stray animals within three days at the latest, change water in ornamental ponds frequently, or deploy fish that feed on mosquito larvae. Additionally, the municipality has recommended emptying unused swimming pools, replacing broken manhole covers, closing open warehouses, and renewing rotten warehouses.
It is important for citizens to take these precautions to prevent the spread of these disease-carrying mosquitoes and to ensure the safety and well-being of the community. The collaboration of the public and the municipality in these efforts is essential for effective mosquito control.
