Kyrenia Tourism Festival Celebrates the Vibrant Culture of Northern Cyprus
Today, a spectacular “Tourism Festival” was held in Kyrenia as part of Tourism Week, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and beauty of Northern Cyprus.
Organized by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment, and in collaboration with the Kyrenia Municipality, the Tourism Festival took place at the enchanting Kyrenia Ancient Port and continued well into the night.
The festivities kicked off with a grand procession from Kyrenia Ramadan Cemil Square to the Ancient Port at 11:00, setting the stage for a day filled with excitement and celebration. The event also marked the official reopening of the Kyrenia Ancient Port, following extensive restoration and renovation works that began in December 2022.
In his opening speech at the event, President Ersin Tatar emphasized the significant strides made in developing the country’s tourism sector and establishing Northern Cyprus as a renowned destination. President Tatar highlighted the success of promoting the stand of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus at the International Berlin Tourism Fair, solidifying its brand value in the global tourism market.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel underscored the government’s commitment to implementing vital projects and reforms to enhance the tourism sector’s growth. He commended the efforts to revitalize the Ancient Port, a symbol of the country’s tourism, and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strengthening cooperation with local governments and tourism organizations to elevate Northern Cyprus as a premier tourist destination.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Fikri Ataoğlu expressed his delight in restoring the Kyrenia Ancient Port to its former glory, symbolizing a new chapter in the country’s tourism landscape. He extended his gratitude to all contributors and pledged to continue working with industry stakeholders to propel the sector forward.
The Mayor of Kyrenia, Murat Şenkul, emphasized the transformative impact of collaboration between local and central governments in driving positive change in the region. He praised the initiatives undertaken to rejuvenate the Ancient Port and enhance the city’s cultural offerings.
Throughout the day, the Kyrenia Tourism Festival featured a diverse array of performances, including concerts, dance shows, theater productions, and fashion displays across three stages at the Ancient Port. Attendees also enjoyed guided tours of the port and castle, as well as engaging activities such as caricature drawing and music concerts.
As the sun sets, the festival will culminate in a captivating concert by Fikri Karayel at 21:30, offering a grand finale to a day filled with joy, culture, and celebration. The Kyrenia Tourism Festival serves as a testament to the unwavering spirit and allure of Northern Cyprus, inviting visitors to embrace its vibrant heritage and picturesque landscapes.
