Lakadamyalı Joins Informal Meeting of ECO Council of Ministers
Mustafa Lakadamyalı, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recently attended an informal meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Council of Ministers in New York. During this meeting, he delivered a speech highlighting the participation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the ECO since 1992 and its Observer Member status since 2012.
In his speech, Lakadamyalı emphasized the TRNC’s commitment to the goals of the 2025 ECO vision, emphasizing stability and readiness to contribute to targets such as trade, transportation, energy, tourism, economic growth, social welfare, and environmental efficiency. He also mentioned the potential for cooperation between institutions of higher education in the TRNC and sister states.
Addressing the long-standing Cyprus issue, Lakadamyalı mentioned the end of negotiations on a federation basis in 2017 and the Turkish Cypriot side’s proposed two-state solution based on sovereign equality and equal international status. He called for support from ECO member countries, including Turkish President Erdoğan, in recognizing the independence of the TRNC and establishing diplomatic, political, and economic relations with the region.
Overall, Lakadamyalı’s participation in the ECO meeting shed light on the TRNC’s involvement in regional cooperation and its aspirations for a more stable and prosperous future within the framework of the 2025 ECO vision.
