Landfill Fire in Artvin

A fire broke out in a landfill in the Çoruh Valley on the Artvin-Ardahan highway, caused by a methane gas explosion in the wild garbage storage area. The incident occurred in the Varyant location, triggering a rapid response from the Artvin Municipality fire brigades.
The fire, which quickly spread to approximately 5 decares of rugged land, has been challenging to extinguish due to small-scale explosions occurring from time to time. The teams are currently on site, working diligently to contain and extinguish the flames.
The blaze serves as a reminder of the importance of proper waste management and the potential dangers associated with methane gas buildup in landfills. Authorities are investigating the incident further to determine the cause of the explosion and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
