Last Minute: Eylem Tok and Son Timur Cihantimur Returning to Turkey from USA
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunç has announced that the suspects involved in a fatal traffic accident in Eyüpsultan, Istanbul, will be extradited back to Turkey from the United States. The suspects, Timur Cihantimur and Eylem Tok, were arrested in the USA following a request for their return to Turkey.
The accident, which occurred on March 1 in Eyüpsultan, resulted in the death of Oguz Murat Aci. 17-year-old driver Timur Cihantimur, who caused the accident, fled the country with his mother’s help and traveled to Egypt and then the USA.
The Ministry of Justice forwarded a request for the suspects’ extradition to the US authorities, and they were arrested in Boston on June 14 based on a decision by the Florida Federal Court. Despite the suspects’ lawyers’ arguments for better conditions during their imprisonment, the judge decided to continue their detention.
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunç stated that they will continue to pursue the extradition process to ensure justice is served. This case highlights the importance of international cooperation in bringing suspects to justice regardless of their location.
