Launch Event for Lapta Accounting Business Registration – BRTK

The traditional handicraft of “Lapta Accounting Business” from Turkish Cypriot culture has been officially registered in the TRNC. This valuable art form, which has been practiced by Turkish Cypriot women for over a century, was recognized through the efforts of the Turkish Cypriot Women Entrepreneurs Association, Lapta Culture and Arts Association, and Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel Municipality.

A special launch event was held at the Acapulco Resort Hotel to celebrate the registration of the “Lapta Accounting Business”. İçim Çağıner Kavuklu, President of the Turkish Cypriot Women’s Entrepreneurial Association, expressed her gratitude to all those who contributed to this important milestone and emphasized the significance of passing down this cultural heritage to future generations.

Sultan Keskinel, President of the Lapta Culture and Art Association, highlighted the rich historical and cultural values of the Lapta Region. Mayor Fırat Ataser of Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel emphasized the importance of collaboration between the state, Ministry of Tourism, and municipality to preserve and promote these cultural treasures for the benefit of tourism and the economy.

Sibel Tatar, wife of President Ersin Tatar, stressed the importance of protecting cultural values to strengthen society and the state. She underscored the role of education in nurturing an appreciation for cultural heritage, particularly among children, to ensure its preservation and global recognition.

Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu emphasized the significance of promoting domestic products and values on the world stage. He called for legislative action to safeguard national heritage and acknowledged the efforts of GİKAD in showcasing the “Lapta Accounting Business” to a global audience.

The culmination of the event was the screening of a special episode of the “People’s Art” program dedicated to the “Lapta Accounting Business”, produced by renowned fashion designer Dilek Hanif and the NTV team. This episode, marking the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, will be broadcast on BRT1 on Sunday, July 21 at 18.05.
