Lebanese Prime Minister Mikati Issues Warning on Spreading Regional Danger
Lebanese Prime Minister Naguib Mikati has raised concerns over the escalating tensions in the region, warning that the level of danger is increasing and spreading across different areas. In light of recent developments, Mikati visited the army headquarters in the El-Yerze region, east of Beirut, on National Army Day celebrated on August 1.
During his visit, Mikati emphasized the security challenges facing Lebanon and the worrying regional events that point to a growing threat. He particularly highlighted the tensions with Israel, describing them as systematic and dangerous. Recent violent incidents have underscored the need for Lebanon to defend its territory and sovereignty with all means necessary.
Mikati also stressed his government’s commitment to peace, not war, and its efforts to achieve lasting stability by reclaiming occupied territories in southern Lebanon. He called on Israel to comply with the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, emphasizing that his administration will not be deterred by any attacks in pursuing these goals.
The recent killings of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukur in a military strike in Beirut and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran have raised tensions in the region. While Iran and Hamas have accused Israel of orchestrating the attacks, the Israeli government has not commented on the incidents. Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza and clashes with Hezbollah along its northern border have further fueled the regional unrest.
