Lebanon to Lodge UN Complaint Against Israel’s Use of Phosphorus Bombs
Lebanese Foreign Minister Condemns Israel’s Use of White Phosphorus in Attacks against Lebanon
Lebanon – In a recent written statement, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Buhabib expressed his concern over Israel’s use of white phosphorus in repeated attacks against Lebanon. He also accused Israel of deliberately setting fire to forests and woodlands in the country. Minister Buhabib instructed the Lebanese mission at the United Nations to file a complaint against Israel, calling on the UN Security Council to condemn these actions.
The repercussions of these attacks were felt yesterday when a fire broke out in the Sheikh Zeyn region of southern Lebanon. Fire trucks were swiftly dispatched to the area to extinguish the flames caused by the Israeli assault. The south of Lebanon has been a hotbed of conflict for the past three weeks, witnessing clashes between the Israeli army, Hezbollah, and Palestinian groups operating in the country.
The use of white phosphorus in warfare has long been a topic of controversy due to its devastating effects, causing severe burns and potentially fatal injuries. It is considered a violation of international humanitarian law under certain circumstances.
Israel has faced criticism in the past for its use of white phosphorus in conflicts, particularly during the 2006 Lebanon War and the 2008-2009 Gaza War. Many countries and human rights organizations have called for its ban, as it poses a significant threat to civilians and the environment.
Lebanon has repeatedly voiced its concern over Israel’s aggression and has now taken the matter to the international stage. By filing a complaint with the UN Security Council, Lebanon hopes to draw attention to these unlawful acts and seek justice for its people.
As the situation in southern Lebanon remains tense, it is crucial for diplomatic efforts to be intensified in order to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The condemnation of Israel’s use of white phosphorus by the international community could potentially lead to increased pressure on the country to cease these harmful tactics.
The Lebanese government, along with its allies and supporters, continues to stand united in denouncing Israel’s aggression and protecting the rights of the Lebanese people. It is hoped that through international cooperation, a peaceful and just solution can be achieved, bringing an end to the suffering in the region.
