Violent Family Feud Leads to Injuries and Legal Action
A family feud between two sets of relatives turned violent in the Hamitler Neighborhood of Sevgi Street in the Osmangazi district in May. The dispute between brothers Baran and Kerem Karadeniz, their cousin YK (17), and their uncle’s children, Hüseyin and Hasan Karadeniz (18), escalated when their fathers Naif, Ercan, and Ergül Karadeniz joined the argument, leading to a brawl on the street.
During the altercation, shotguns and clubs were used, resulting in injuries to Naif, Ercan, Hüseyin, and Ergül Karadeniz. Police and medical teams were called to the scene, and the injured were taken to Çekirge State Hospital for treatment. Baran, Kerem, and YK, who had fled the scene, were later apprehended by the police.
Subsequent investigations led to a lawsuit being filed against YK in the 2nd Children’s Court and against Baran and Kerem Karadeniz in the 22nd Criminal Court of First Instance for “intentional injury.” The trial of Baran and Kerem Karadeniz, facing potential prison sentences of up to 5 years, has commenced.
Despite attending the hearing as complainants, Naif, Ercan, Ergül, and Hüseyin Karadeniz chose not to press charges, stating, “They are our relatives, our loved ones. The pellets hit us by chance.”
In court, the detained defendants, Baran and Kerem Karadeniz, expressed regret for the incident, stating, “We are deeply sorry for what happened. We did not intend to cause harm. We fired the shotgun in the heat of the moment, and the pellets accidentally hit them.”
The defendants’ lawyer, Tuncay Özdemir, argued that the incident was not intentional but rather negligent, and requested that his clients be tried without detention due to the suffering they endured during their time in prison.
Following these statements, the court judge decided to release the detained defendants and adjourned the hearing for further proceedings. The case highlights the consequences of unresolved family disputes and the importance of conflict resolution to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
