Turkey held its presidential and parliamentary elections on Sunday, May 14, 2023. According to milliyet.com.tr, the vote count is ongoing, with the first results coming in from all provinces. More than 191,000 ballot boxes were set up in 973 districts and 1,094 district election boards across the country. Around 60.7 million voters cast their ballots in the elections. As of 5:00 pm on Sunday, the voting process had been completed in all 81 provinces.
According to the latest results, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was leading the presidential race with 52.85% of the votes cast, while his closest rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, had secured 41.23%. Sinan Ogan and Muharrem Slim were trailing with 5.37% and 0.55% of votes, respectively.
The counting of votes began after the election bans were lifted, and the first results were updated instantly on milliyet.com.tr’s special election page. By 7:50 pm, 30% of the ballot boxes had been opened, with President Erdogan leading by 53.62%, followed by Kilicdaroglu with 40.42%.
Today’s elections saw 4.9 million first-time voters in Turkey. The number of voters in prison and convicted of negligent crimes was 53,172. A total of 81 provinces participated in the elections, with more than 1094 district election boards established.
