
Lives Lost: Remembering Those Who Perished in the Fire Tragedy

Tragic news has shaken the community as the victims of the fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Center are bid farewell on their final journey. The bodies of Mert Doğan, his wife Duygu, and their daughters Doğa and Mavi Doğan, who lost their lives in the devastating fire, were laid to rest at Havutlu Cemetery in the central Yüreğir district.
Heartbreaking scenes unfolded as Mother Ersin Doğan embraced and kissed the coffin of her beloved son, Mert Doğan. The grieving family members said their final goodbyes as prayers were offered for the departed souls.
It has been revealed that Mert and Duygu Doğan, who resided in Istanbul, had planned a visit to their relatives in Adana following the holiday. Mert Doğan, serving as the general manager of a polyester company in Tekirdağ’s Çorlu district, was enjoying a ski trip with his family before the tragic incident occurred at the Grand Kartal Hotel.
In another tragic incident, 25-year-old Şevval Şahin bravely jumped from the 12th floor of the hotel to escape the flames while in a heartbreaking conversation with his father. Despite sustaining serious injuries, Şahin ultimately succumbed to his wounds. The young man was laid to rest in Bartın amidst tears and sorrow from his grieving family.
As the investigation into the fire disaster unfolds, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç provided updates on the progress of the inquiry. A total of 11 individuals, including officials from the Fire Brigade, the hotel management, and other related parties, have been detained in connection with the incident.
The community mourns the loss of these precious lives and stands in solidarity with the families of the victims during this difficult time.
