“Local peanut variety among 5 types planted in Güzelyurt”
The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has started studies to reproduce products such as chickpeas, sesame, and peanuts in Turkey, according to Dursun Oğuz, the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources. As part of this initiative, the Agricultural Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in cooperation with the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policy of Turkey has planted 5 different types of peanuts in Güzelyurt as part of the peanut adaptation trial studies. One of these types is local to the region.
Minister Oğuz emphasized that they intend to share the resulting data on harvest time, productivity, and cost with producers and underscored the importance of domestic production. The Republic of Turkey and TAGEM are collaborating on projects to revive products that are no longer produced for various reasons, and Mayor Mahmut Özçınar of Güzelyurt expressed support for such activities in the agricultural city. Agricultural Engineer Bekir Şimşek from the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies of Turkey and Cem Karaca, Director of the Agricultural Research Institute, also expressed hopes for a successful outcome for the project.
