Women in Kırka Town Come Together to Support Firefighters
In a heartwarming display of unity and solidarity, women in Kırka town organized themselves to support those battling a recent forest fire that broke out on August 20. The fire, which was finally extinguished after a two-day struggle, left 30 hectares of land damaged in its wake.
Taking matters into their own hands, the women cooked traditional dishes such as katmer and gözleme in ovens they set up at four different points. They also bought ayran to accompany the food and delivered it to the firefighters and rescue teams working tirelessly to put out the flames.
Kırka Town Mayor, Hakan Şahin, praised the women for their efforts, stating that their actions were a beautiful example of unity and solidarity. He likened their dedication to the spirit of the War of Independence, calling them the town’s Nene Hatuns.
The women’s selfless gesture did not go unnoticed, as approximately 2 thousand people involved in the firefighting operation were served with the delicious pastries made by the women.
One resident, İbadiye Özensel, commended the women for their hard work and dedication, highlighting the sense of community and togetherness that was demonstrated during the crisis. She mentioned that everyone pitched in by bringing melons and watermelons from their homes to support the cause.
İsmihan Seven, another member of the group, shared that they not only provided food and refreshments to the passing teams, but also sent additional supplies to the region to ensure that everyone involved in the firefighting efforts was taken care of.
Overall, the actions of these women in Kırka town serve as a reminder of the power of coming together in times of need and the impact that a small act of kindness can have during a crisis.
