Logistics Industry Thriving with Job Opportunities for 300 Thousand

The logistics sector in Hungary continues to flourish, with a significant increase in employment and production value. According to State Secretary for Bilateral Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Tamás Menczer, the sector currently employs around 300,000 people and transported 300 million tons of goods last year. In addition, the production value of the sector increased by 50 percent in 2022, reaching HUF 5,500 billion (EUR 14.3 billion).
Menczer made these remarks during the inauguration of the new warehouse complex of Trans-Sped, a logistics company based in Debrecen. The family-owned business, which was founded 33 years ago, has seen remarkable success, employing 900 people and generating a turnover of nearly HUF 33 billion last year.
As part of an agreement with Trans-Sped, the company plans to establish six new logistics centers between 2017 and 2023. These centers will be located in Debrecen, Nagytarcsa, Környe, and Tata, creating 270 new jobs. The government will provide HUF 2.4 billion (EUR 6.24 million) in non-refundable aid to support the development.
Menczer emphasized Hungary’s attractiveness as an investment destination for foreign investors. He cited political and economic stability, low taxes, excellent infrastructure, and the hard work and talent of the Hungarian people as key factors contributing to this appeal. In 2022, Hungary received a total of 6.5 billion euros in investments, with a balanced distribution of 48 percent from the East, 42 percent from the West, and 10 percent from Hungarian sources.
László Pósán, a Member of Parliament for the region, praised the progress made in the logistics sector and recalled the challenges faced in the early 1990s when transportation from Debrecen to Budapest was difficult. He credited Zsolt Fülöp, the founding owner of Trans-Sped, for his role in building one of the country’s most important transport and logistics businesses.
The growth of the logistics sector in Hungary is a testament to the country’s economic development and its attractiveness to both domestic and foreign investors. With ongoing investments and expansion plans, the sector is expected to contribute further to employment and economic growth in the coming years.
