Experts Predict Machines Will Outperform Human Labor by 2060, All Jobs Automated by 2140
Artificial intelligence (AI) is growing rapidly and is already playing an increasingly vital role in people’s everyday lives. Without realizing it, algorithms determine the next post on Facebook, the next video on TikTok, and the next song on Spotify. The entertainment industry is not the only sector where AI use is expanding; it is expanding into countless other industries as well. Experts predict that machines will soon perform tasks better and more efficiently than humans. By 2060, machines are expected to carry out all jobs more cheaply and systematically than humans, and all jobs are predicted to be fully automated by around 2140.
Despite concerns that this would lead to an adverse effect on the global labor force, Zoltán Koós, an expert at 4IG, urges caution. While the technology is rapidly advancing, there is currently no consensus among researchers on when the first super-intelligence will be created. Many experts disagree on what AI is fundamentally, whether the current development path is appropriate, and when realistic progress will be made. For example, some professionals believe that Intel will develop superintelligence after 2100, while others staunchly argue that the technology will be available by the 2060s. Further, there are only two or three significant groups that are working on developing super-intelligence, including Google’s artificial intelligence division, Deepmind, Meta, and OpenAI.
Even if AI is advanced enough to take on repetitive tasks from humans, it does not necessarily mean it would make human labor pointless in the short term. Koós argues that while AI technology will continue to create job opportunities, major technological breakthroughs in the industrial sector throughout history have also taken jobs away. There will likely be job losses in the future as well. Nonetheless, the expert believes that one benefit from AI technology is that robots would require extensive management and maintenance, ensuring job opportunities exist in those critical fields.
