Maintenance and Repair Work Underway at Umayyad Mosque in Syria
The Umayyad Mosque, also known as Damascus Ulu Mosque, is currently undergoing maintenance and repair work in Syria. This historical and religious site is being carefully maintained to preserve its significance.
As part of the renovation efforts, painting operations, gypsum and decorative arrangements are being carried out in the mosque. The lighting inside the mosque is also being cleaned to ensure a pleasant and well-lit environment for worshippers.
One of the major updates taking place is the replacement of the carpets in the mosque. The old carpets have been removed and after undergoing small-scale cleaning and renovation, new carpets brought all the way from Turkey will be laid down in the mosque.
The Umayyad Mosque is renowned as one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world, attracting visitors and worshippers from far and wide. Following the overthrow of the Assad regime on 8 December 2024, the mosque became a main place of worship for the inhabitants of Damascus and surrounding cities.
