Customs officials at Istanbul Airport have intercepted a major drug shipment, seizing 455.2 kilos of cocaine from a cargo shipment.

According to a statement from the Ministry, Istanbul Airport Customs Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate teams discovered the cocaine during a detailed examination of a cargo shipment in transit from abroad through Turkey. The drugs were found hidden in 40 boxes.

The Customs Protection Postal/Cargo Narchemic teams, along with narcotic dogs, were instrumental in uncovering the illegal shipment. The confiscated drugs have been handed over to authorities, and an investigation has been launched by the Gaziosmanpaşa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The Ministry highlighted the efforts of Customs Protection teams in combating drug smuggling on an international scale, stating, “The Ministry of Commerce Customs Protection teams continue to combat drug traffickers who pose a threat to human health and welfare and provide funding to terrorist organizations.”

The seizure of such a large quantity of cocaine serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and the importance of vigilant customs enforcement.
