Majority of South Koreans Believe Yoon Should be Chosen

According to a recent report by Yonhap, a South Korean research company Realmeter has been keeping a close eye on the public’s opinion regarding the dismissal case of Yoon’s Constitutional Court.
In a survey conducted with 1006 adults, it was found that 52 percent of the participants believe that the Constitutional Court should decide on Yoon’s dismissal, while 45.1 percent support Yoon’s reinstatement as president.
Interestingly, the survey also revealed that 50.7 percent of the participants consider the process of Yoon’s dismissal by the Constitutional Court as “fair”, while 45 percent believe the process to be unfair.
Yoon, who was removed from his position on January 15 as part of an investigation into the declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024, had requested his dismissal by the South Korean National Assembly. Subsequently, on January 19, Yoon was arrested on charges of “leading the uprising” and “abuse of duty” by the Western Regional Court of Seoul.
On January 26, the South Korean Prosecutor’s Office announced that an indictment was being prepared against Yoon for “leading uprising”. The dismissal case initiated in light of the martial law declaration in December 2024 is currently ongoing in the Constitutional Court.
These recent developments have sparked a debate among the public, with divided opinions on Yoon’s dismissal and potential return as president. The outcome of the Constitutional Court’s decision will ultimately determine the future of Yoon’s political career in South Korea.
