Male Lawyer Detained for Wearing Sheets and Walking on Street
A male lawyer in Turkey was detained by police for walking on the streets wearing a bra and makeup while dressed in a black burqa and veil. The police’s motorcycle teams from the Deniz Provincial Security Directorate Public Security Branch Directorate tried to stop the suspect, who was believed to be a woman, but the suspect resisted arrest by running away and throwing an umbrella. The police apprehended the suspect, whose identity they could not determine, and took him to the station for questioning.
It was later found that the detained person was a male lawyer who was registered with the Denizli Bar Association. The lawyer claimed that he dressed as a woman to “make a change.” The police released him after taking his statement on the charge of resisting the officer in charge.
Previous reports claimed that citizens believed the suspect was attempting to commit a theft, but no such charge has been made by the authorities. The incident took place in the Sırakapılar District at around 9:00 PM.
