Man convicted of strangling pregnant woman during sex

A Syrian national, identified as YAMA, is currently facing trial after being accused of killing a 5-month pregnant woman, NMT, during sexual intercourse. The incident took place in the Yıldırım district in July, leaving the community shocked and outraged.
According to reports, YAMA had previously divorced MA, the mother of his four children, and subsequently entered into a religious marriage with NMT, his distant relative. The tragic event occurred during their time together, where YAMA allegedly hung NMT’s head from the bed, squeezing her throat until she ceased to show any signs of life.
After realizing the severity of the situation, YAMA left the house to meet his friends before returning and discovering NMT lying lifeless. He then sought help from a friend, İ.O., who immediately responded and contacted medical teams. Despite their efforts, it was confirmed that NMT had tragically passed away.
During the subsequent interrogation at the police station, YAMA claimed that the incident was unintended and was a result of his desire to fulfill a sexual fantasy. However, the severity of the situation led to his arrest and subsequent imprisonment.
In response to the allegations, the suspect’s ex-wife, MA, shared disturbing details about her own experience with YAMA, stating that during her pregnancies, he attempted to abort their children by squeezing her throat and pressing her stomach.
The trial has begun at the Bursa 4th High Criminal Court, with prosecutors seeking aggravated life imprisonment for the intentional murder of a woman. YAMA’s defense denies any intention to cause harm, attributing the death to an accidental occurrence during sexual intercourse, and refutes the claims made by his ex-wife.
The court has decided to continue the defendant’s detention and has postponed the hearing to allow for further investigation and legal proceedings. The tragic case has brought attention to the intersection of domestic violence, sexual assault, and the legal ramifications of such incidents in society.
