Man Sentenced to 24 Years in Prison for Brutal Stabbing of Wife During Divorce Proceedings
Man Stabs Estranged Wife 12 Times in Café
An incident of domestic violence shocked the residents of Seka Park on October 17, 2021, when Suat Çetin attacked his estranged wife, Aynur Çetin, in a cafe. Aynur, who works in the cafe’s kitchen, was in the process of divorcing Suat when he unexpectedly arrived at her workplace.
A heated argument erupted between the couple, escalating into a brutal assault. Armed with a bread knife he had brought with him, Suat stabbed Aynur twelve times in a horrifying act of violence. Fortunately, witnesses swiftly intervened and apprehended Suat before he could inflict further harm.
Authorities quickly arrived at the scene, and the injured Aynur was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, Suat Çetin was neutralized by the witnesses and handed over to the police. Following the necessary legal procedures, Suat was subsequently arrested, while Aynur Çetin was discharged from the hospital after receiving medical care.
The trial of Suat Çetin, who stands accused of attempted intentional murder against his wife, is currently underway at the Kocaeli 3rd High Criminal Court. During the latest hearing, Suat expressed remorse for his actions and pleaded for his release and acquittal. The prosecution, however, argued that Suat should be sentenced to a maximum of 24 years in prison.
In light of the defense’s request for additional time to prepare their case, the judge postponed the hearing. The defendant’s lawyer will have the opportunity to respond to the prosecution’s opinion in the next session.
