“Man threatens to use molotov cocktail against spouse seeking divorce”

Man Threatens Family with Gun and Molotov Cocktail

Police in Istanbul have arrested a man accused of threatening his father-in-law and family with a gun and Molotov cocktail. Serkan Öztürk allegedly showed up at the house of his father-in-law, Aydın Birlik, brandishing a firearm and a Molotov cocktail. He knocked on the door numerous times before leaving the improvised explosive device (IED) on the doorstep.

Öztürk’s father-in-law, Aydın Birlik, had been caring for his grandchildren since his son-in-law separated from his spouse. Öztürk had previously made threats against his father-in-law, and Birlik had installed security cameras at his home out of fear.

Following the incident, Birlik filed a complaint using the Women’s Emergency Support App (KADES), prompting a police investigation that led to Öztürk’s arrest. The courts charged him with “Threat and Insult with a Gun.”

However, five days later, Öztürk was released, and on May 23, he allegedly broke the windows of Birlik’s home with an ax.

Birlik claimed that he and his family were living in constant fear as a result of Öztürk’s erratic behavior, and he called for his arrest. He alleges that Öztürk abused his wife and kicked his children and mother out of the house.

The family’s house is made of wood, and the Molotov cocktails left at the doorstep could have caused significant damage.

The incident highlights the importance of reporting domestic violence and seeking help. The KADES app allows women to connect with emergency services in the event of violence or harassment.
