Man with Five Identities Files Lawsuit to Discover True Identity
The case of Ersin Akbaş, a 59-year-old man from Turkey, has gained attention due to a series of mistakes regarding his name throughout his life. Akbaş, who was initially registered as a girl named Ergün when he was born, had his records corrected shortly after. However, the errors persisted during his school years.
Despite his objections, Akbaş received his primary school diploma with the name Ersun, only to have it mistakenly written as Ergin on his second diploma. Throughout his life, Akbaş has gone by the names Ergün, Ersun, Ergin, Ersün, and finally Ersin Akbaş.
The confusion surrounding Akbaş’s name has caused difficulties in social security premium payments and job search processes. In an effort to resolve these issues and finally retire, Akbaş filed a lawsuit with his lawyer in the Antalya 9th Labor Court for name determination and insurance entries.
In a statement to the press, Akbaş expressed the importance of resolving the situation in order to secure his retirement. Despite his efforts to clarify his name and insurance records, the court rejected the case citing a lack of tax liability records for Ersin Akbaş’s mother on the specified dates.
Akbaş emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that he has been unable to retire at the age of 59 due to the confusion surrounding his various names. His lawyer, Nuray Ertem, explained that without a clear determination of his name, his insurance status remains uncertain.
Despite the challenges he has faced, Akbaş remains hopeful that the authorities will hear his plea and resolve the issue swiftly. With a history of different names and insurance entries, Akbaş is determined to untangle the confusion and finally retire after years of uncertainty.
