Man’s Death Tragically Caused by Surgical Error: Liver Removed Instead of Spleen

Family Lawyer Accuses Doctor of removing Liver Instead of Spleen in Surgery gone Wrong
In a shocking turn of events, the family lawyer of William Bryan, who passed away in August, has made a startling allegation against the doctor who performed the surgery. According to The Guardian newspaper, the lawyer claimed that during the surgery to remove Bryan’s spleen, the doctor mistakenly removed his liver instead.
The incident occurred when 70-year-old William Bryan, from Alabama, was taken to a hospital in Florida after experiencing pain on the left side of his body. Doctors initially diagnosed Bryan with a spleen problem and recommended surgery. Despite initial hesitation from the family, they eventually agreed to proceed with the surgery based on the doctor’s recommendation.
The lawyer alleged that during the surgery performed by Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky using the “laparoscopic splenectomy” method, also known as “closed spleen surgery”, the doctor removed Bryan’s liver instead of his spleen. This mistake came to light only after Bryan’s passing, when it was revealed that the organ removed was, in fact, his liver.
This isn’t the first time Dr. Shaknovsky has been accused of medical malpractice. The lawyer claimed that in a previous case in 2023, the doctor had mistakenly taken a piece of another patient’s pancreas instead of the adrenal gland during surgery, which was resolved quietly.
In response to these serious allegations, the Bryan family’s lawyer is calling for Dr. Shaknovsky’s termination. The hospital where the surgery took place has stated that an investigation into the matter has been initiated to determine the veracity of the claims.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proper medical oversight and the need for accountability in the healthcare system. It remains to be seen what action will be taken in response to these troubling allegations.
