The History of Crochet Festival
The Crochet Festival has a long and rich history that dates back to March 14, 1827, during the reign of Mahmud II. It all began with the proposal of Hekimbaşı Mustafa Behçet, who founded the first Cerrahhane under the name of Mediahane-i Amire and Cerrahhane-i Amire in Tulumbacıbaşı Mansion in Şehzadebaşı.
March 14th, the day of the establishment of the school, is now celebrated as “Medical Day”. This day holds great significance in the field of medicine, and is also known by various names such as “Medical Education Day”, “Medical Education Day in Türkiye”, or “Medical Teaching Day”.
As we honor this important day in the history of medicine, let us also celebrate the art of crochet and all those who have dedicated their time and skills to this beautiful craft. Let the Crochet Festival be a reminder of the rich traditions and history that have shaped our world today.
