Maserati Police Officer’s Fate Decided
Manisa Soma Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has prepared an indictment regarding an incident that took place on the Izmir-Istanbul Highway on April 22, 2023. The altercation occurred between two drivers, Fatih Uzun and Hüseyin Tayfun Üçgül, who were involved in a traffic dispute. The situation escalated as both individuals exchanged heated words and stopped their vehicles at the side of the road.
According to the indictment, Fatih Uzun attempted to punch Üçgül but missed, while Üçgül retaliated by kicking and injuring Uzun’s knee. Üçgül further remarked, “You do not know who is who.” The indictment also states that Uzun threatened Üçgül, claiming that he had influence over public prosecutors and mafia members due to his TR license plate. It was noted that the spouses of both parties witnessed the incident.
The indictment identifies Uzun’s broken leg as a result of the altercation and asserts that there is enough evidence to warrant a public lawsuit. Hüseyin Tayfun Üçgül has been charged with “public insult” and “intentional injury,” and the prosecution is seeking a prison sentence of 6 years and 10 months for him. Notably, Üçgül is a police officer working in the Dalaman District Police Department.
In response to the incident, the Ministry of Interior appointed an inspector to conduct an administrative investigation into police officer Hüseyin Tayfun Üçgül. As part of the investigation, Üçgül has been reassigned to a different duty station.
Üçgül was subsequently suspended and placed into a passive unit within the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch pending the completion of the investigation. The final decision regarding Üçgül’s reinstatement will be based on the report prepared by the inspector conducting the examination.
The incident involving the police officer from Maserati has sparked public interest, leading to statements from his lawyer and his wife. The wife of the accused officer, who had broken the leg of a lawyer during the argument, has offered her perspective on the matter.
