Massive Water Main Burst in Kadıköy Leads to Evacuation of 5-Storey Building

Residents of a 5-storey building in Istanbul Kadıköy were evacuated as a precaution due to an explosion in the main water network. The incident occurred when the pipes of the main water network burst in Rasim Paşa District Celal Muhtar Street, causing pressurized water to reach meters high and form a hole in front of the building.

As a result of the explosion, paving stones were removed, garbage containers were overturned, and the windows of a workplace were broken. Authorities were notified, and the police, 112 Emergency Health, and fire brigade were dispatched to the area.

Precautions were taken by the teams that arrived on the scene, including the evacuation of the residents of the 5-storey building and cutting off electricity to some buildings as a safety measure. Erkan Saygılı, a business owner on the street, expressed frustration over the ongoing problem with the water network, which eventually led to the explosion.

Nuray Özpar, a resident of the apartment building, reported contacting Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) multiple times about the issue but receiving no response. The rising water levels posed a threat to the building’s foundation, causing concern among residents about potential damage.

The incident has raised questions about responsibility for the damages and the lack of timely intervention from authorities. The situation remains uncertain as residents await further updates on the condition of the building and the necessary repairs.
