
Masters Brave Zorlu Weather to Hang ‘Mahya’ 70 Meters High

Mahya masters in Bursa have once again displayed their incredible skills by hanging the ridge between two minarets of the historical Ulu Mosque. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the team of 3 craftsmen managed to hang the traditional Mahya, replacing the old inscription with a new one that reads ‘Lâ ilhe illallah Muhammad’s Messenger of Allah’.
This tradition of Mahya dates back to the Ottoman Empire and has been continued for nearly 400 years. The Mahyacı hero star team, who have been practicing this craft for over 50 years, are dedicated to preserving this cultural heritage. They have hung Mahyas in various mosques across different provinces, showcasing their expertise and commitment to their art.
Haluk Yıldız, the Regional Director of Bursa Foundations, praised the master team for their dedication to their craft. He emphasized the importance of their work during the holy month of Ramadan, stating that they have been working diligently to hang the Mahyas in different cities.
Despite facing rain and other challenging weather conditions, the Mahya masters remain undeterred in their mission. They continue to uphold this beautiful tradition, spreading messages of faith and goodwill through their art.
