Mediterranean Research Ship to Study TRNC Waters
The Council of Ministers has granted permission for the Mediterranean Research 1 Ship to conduct ichthyoplankton sampling in the territorial waters of the TRNC and Turkish territorial waters. This decision was made in relation to the “Research on the Reproductive and Migratory Behavior of Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Spawning in the Eastern Mediterranean” project.
According to the official announcement published in yesterday’s Official Gazette, the Council of Ministers approved the following decision: “In light of the proposal, the Council of Ministers decided to grant permission for the Mediterranean Research 1 vessel to conduct ichthyoplankton sampling studies between 1.6.2024 and 30.6.2024 in the territorial waters of the TRNC. This permission is also granted within the scope of the research project titled ‘Investigation of the Reproductive and Migratory Behaviors of Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Spawning in the Eastern Mediterranean’ planned to be carried out between 2024 and 2028 by the Mediterranean Fisheries Research, Production and Training Institute Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey.”
This decision allows for important research to take place in the region, providing valuable insights into the behavior of Atlantic Bluefin Tuna and their spawning patterns in the Eastern Mediterranean. The work conducted by the Mediterranean Research 1 Ship will contribute to the ongoing efforts to better understand and protect marine ecosystems in the area.
