RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin: A Brief Biography
Ebubekir Şahin, the President of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), was born in 1974 in Rize Çayeli. He completed his primary education in Rize and went on to complete his high school education in Sakarya. In 1995, he graduated from Gazi University, Faculty of Communication, Department of Public Relations and Promotion. He furthered his education by completing a master’s degree in Journalism in 2002.
Throughout his career, Şahin has held various administrative positions in institutions such as the Ministry of Interior, the Parliament, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, RTÜK, and the Prime Ministry. He also served as the Deputy General Manager at Anadolu Agency, as well as Deputy Undersecretary and Undersecretary at the Ministry of Family and Social Policies.
In accordance with Article 35 of the Law No. 6112 on the Establishment and Publication Services of Radio and Television, Şahin was elected as a member of the Radio and Television Supreme Council during the 8th combination of the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly on October 16, 2017. After serving as a member for some time, he was elected as the Chairman of the Supreme Council on January 23, 2019, and was re-elected on January 25, 2021, and January 25, 2023.
Recently, on October 18, 2023, Şahin was once again elected as the Chairman of the Supreme Council for the fourth time, following his appointment as a member of the Radio and Television Supreme Council for the second time after the election held in the 5th combination of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Aside from his professional achievements, Ebubekir Şahin is a family man, married with two children, and is known to be fluent in English. His dedication to his work and leadership in the field of media regulation continue to make an impact within the industry.
