Turkish Cypriot Farmers’ Association Elects New Leadership
The 37th General Assembly of the Turkish Cypriot Farmers’ Association took place yesterday, marking a significant event for the agricultural community. Current president Mehmet Nizam was unanimously re-elected as the President of the Union, standing as the sole candidate in a historic election.
The assembly was attended by notable figures, including President Ersin Tatar, Agriculture and Natural Resources Minister Hüseyin Çavuş, CTP Secretary General Erkut Şahali, various deputies, bureaucratic representatives, and members of the association.
In his acceptance speech, Nizam expressed his gratitude to the farmers for their trust. He highlighted the uniqueness of his election, emphasizing that this is the first time in 35 years that there has been only one candidate for the presidency.
Nizam acknowledged the challenges facing the agricultural sector but reaffirmed his commitment to a solution-oriented approach moving forward. "Agriculture requires further support every day. Protecting water resources, reducing input costs, encouraging youth participation in agriculture, and ensuring sustainable domestic production are crucial for our future," he stated, underlining the importance of preparing for the generations to come.
The newly re-elected president laid out his vision for the association, focusing on creating a stronger organizational structure and enhancing the economic strength of farmers. With a commitment to progress and sustainability, Nizam aims to foster an environment where agriculture can thrive for years to come.
