Meloni condemns Israel’s attack on UN base as ‘Unacceptable’
Italy’s Prime Minister, Meloni, has reiterated Italy’s commitment to the safety and stability of UNIFIL in a telephone conversation with the Israeli leadership. The Prime Ministry stated that it is unacceptable for UNIFIL to be attacked by the Israeli armed forces and emphasized the importance of guaranteeing the safety of UNIFIL personnel at all times.
Furthermore, Meloni expressed Italy’s commitment to implementing UNSC Resolution 1701 fully to contribute to stabilizing the Israel-Lebanon border and ensuring the return of displaced individuals to their homes. As the G7 Term President, Italy is ready to work towards reducing tensions in the region.
In response to recent attacks on UNIFIL bases and observation towers by Israel, Italy’s Defense Minister, Guido Crosetto, summoned Israel’s Ambassador to Rome for a stern warning. With approximately 1,000 soldiers stationed in the region, Italy remains firm in its stance to protect the safety and security of UNIFIL in Southern Lebanon.
